What is capped composite decking?

If you’re in the market for some new decking for your garden or workspace, you may have come across the term ‘capped composite’. If you’re not a decking expert (like us!) then you may have been left scratching your head, but there’s no need to press the panic button yet. In this guide, we’ll take you through what capped composite decking means,  the differences between capped and uncapped composite decking, who capped composite decking is right for, and the options we have in-stock.

What is capped composite decking

Capped composite decking boards are essentially WPC boards that have had an extra durable, moisture-resistant polymer sleeve added during the manufacturing process - in other words, they’ve had an extra water resistant jacket added. This increase in durability and resilience means they’re a great option for use in conditions or environments where traditional timber decking would struggle - for example, to line the upper part of outdoor pools, hot tubs or ornamental ponds.

What is the difference between capped and uncapped?

The key difference between the two is quite simply whether the board has been treated with the additional polymer sleeve (or cap) during manufacturing. This is something to pay attention to when shopping for your decking - while all composite decking benefits from being more resistant to rot and warping than traditional timber decking, not all composite decking is capped. If having this extra protection is important for your project, then we have a couple of product ranges that would be suitable - read on to find out which ones!

Who should consider capped composite decking?

As previously mentioned, the additional water resistance that comes with capped composite decking makes it an ideal choice for anyone looking to install it in areas susceptible to increased moisture. It would also be a great option for anyone looking to use it for a commercial or business premises, or any other area with a high level of footfall, thanks to its increased durability when compared to other products.
